A kitchen brought back without moving a single wall

Walls, ceiling and trim brought back around new gray cabinets and quartz, without moving a single thing.

The finished kitchen sink run: gray paneled cabinets, a white quartz countertop, a stainless undermount sink under the window and white subway tile carried up to the underside of the wall units.

What they asked for

The layout worked and the room got good light, so nothing structural needed to move. What it needed was for every surface that had aged badly to stop being the thing you looked at, and for the job to happen without the family losing their kitchen for a month.

What we did

  • Filled, caulked and sanded the walls and ceiling before any paint went on
  • Cut in and rolled walls and ceilings, keeping the line tight to the new tile
  • Trim and casing run back in and painted once the cabinets were set

How it turned out

The room reads as one piece now instead of a good kitchen sitting inside a tired one. The part worth copying is the order it happened in: everything that makes dust was finished and swept out before anything new and clean went into the room.

The finished kitchen looking down the run past the range and microwave, with gray cabinets, white quartz countertops, subway tile and dark plank flooring laid through to the far wall.
The kitchen with its gray cabinets, white quartz countertops and white subway tile backsplash all in place, photographed while the new plank flooring was still going down over the bare subfloor.
